Oregon Scientific ATC 5K Helmet Cam Review
Extreme sports fans loved the quality and versatility of Oregon Scientific’s ATC2K and ATC3K helmet cams- now, the same manufacturer brings us their new and improved model, the innovative and fun ATC 5K Camera. Like its precursors, this is a nifty piece of kit designed to enable extreme sport enthusiasts, whatever their sport, to record their exploits digitally and download the results to PC, MAC or television. A really robust piece of equipment featuring a fully waterproof exterior and protective cover, the ATC 5000 Action Cam will take anything you can throw at it, from tackling the roughest rapids to leaping out of a plane at 13,000 feet.
One of the clever things about this camera is its versatility; you can attach it to all kinds of equipment and surfaces including rafts, helmet and bike handlebars to make sure you don’t miss any of the action. Also included is a head strap made from flexible and adjustable silicon, suction mounts for polished surfaces, and the unit even doubles as a webcam thanks to the mini tripod which comes with the package. You can extend the filming time offered by the ATC5K to a generous two hours by using a 4GB SD card. Its resilience is particularly impressive when you bear in mind that it weighs a mere 260g and measures no more than 11cm in length. The ATC5K Action Cam is incredibly simple to use, offering one-touch recording and effortless download. But unlike its forerunners, this new and improved model boasts a number of revolutionary features.
Whereas the earlier models came in a fairly nondescript black, this new version has had a makeover and is now resplendent in electric blue. A wide angle lens has been added to capture more action, and the ATC5K Action Cam has the ability to take still photos in addition to digital video and audio footage. You can review your footage as you go using the built-in 1.5” LCD screen, which also comes in handy for setting up or framing your shots in advance; and when you’re ready to start shooting, the ATC5K also features a handy remote control for total convenience. You’ll get a good 5 hours’ use per charge out of the Li-Ion batteries supplied with the ATC 5K Camera, which also offers a choice of three different resolution settings. Reasonably priced and simple yet effective in a range of environments, you’d need to go a long way to find a better product. The ATC5K comes complete with everything you need to get going, from connection cables and installation CD to the all-important mounting straps and clips, plus battery and charger kit; you’ll be capturing those stunts and escapades for the family album in no time at all.
