Dental Imaging Equipment
What does this dental appliance do?
I’ve had lots of treatment, an operation to expose a canine in my palate, then headbraces to move my lower jaw forward, now I have “traintracks” on both upper and lower, something to rotate one of my back lower molars and a chain pulling forward the upper canine.
I recently had another piece of equipment put on and don’t know what it’s for (I keep forgetting to ask the orthodontist)
it looks like the picture on the right http://www.harrisonbraces.com/images/mara-occlusal.jpg but with a bit of plastic in the centre (I’m assuming for comfort).
Oh, and it’s not a hinge thing, it’s just on the top jaw. And I’m not still growing, I’m 20.

the appliance shown on the website above is a transpalatal arch
it can be mainly used to:
- slightly expand the upper jaw
or
- prevent movement of the back teeth
or
- adjust molar root position
