GPS Cameras
Ever since integrated GPS has been available in still digital cameras, it has become a topic of hot debate. With the eagerly awaited Contour GPS camera soon to arrive in the UK as well as Oregon offering its optional GPS module for the ATC9K, it would seem that the latest innovation in video cameras has emerged.
GPS cameras allow users to capture their location, speed and latitude through a built in GPS receiver, which tracks location multiple times per second. Using clever software, users are then able to relive their performance on an interactive map and media player.
This is also set to facilitate a broader range of uses for the camera, such as allowing users to track competitive data for races, review previous runs and gain training feedback. This makes it perfect for sports trainers, professional sportsmen or enthusiasts as for the first time every detail of a performance can be recorded and reviewed. In addition, the Contour GPS also claims to offer the world’s first location-based video community, allowing users to share their videos and adventures, adding a whole new dimension to video recording.
However, it is important to emphasise that this is all completed without compromising the quality of the video, as GPS cameras also combine the capabilities of current market leading video cameras. Both the Contour GPS and Oregon ATC9K incorporate GPS data whilst shooting High Definition 1080p video, making them versatile enough to cater for any sporting requirements.
There is no doubt that GPS cameras are an exciting indication of the possible future direction of action video cameras.
