Some will fit over your range. However, they are still the same item. Their price is much cheaper. Nothing seems to have replaced their basic function.
The VCR does have its pitfalls. This may be the reason for its demise. These items can be difficult, at times. You must be careful or you may get a tape stuck in the unit. Sometimes they can be hard to hook up to your TV. They can be difficult to program, also.
